I think the jury is still out on whether Lin will be a starter long term in the NBA. However I agree with the author in that if he was a high school star, a Harvard star, and a great track record and work ethic then he should have a better than 50/50 chance at the next level.

The only issue is what system he is placed in will really determine his effectiveness. Now that Carmelo is back Lin's role might change and he might not be the coming star for the Knicks. Too Bad if that is the case.

There is also the new factor. He is getting his chance and making the most of it. I am more familiar with baseball so let me go there. Each year there is a rookie pitcher or hitter who does extremely well, gets to start, and bats (hitter) near 300. Some even make the all star team in July. Many fold badly by the end of the season. You see it over and over again in sports. Sophmore Jinx in football they call it for the second year drop.

Too be successful you need to be place in a system and you need to actually be good. Not just college good. There needs to be some unknown that goes beyond physical ability to run, jump, throw that allows you to succeed once the new adrenelin wears off.

Overall thank the author for his perception and insight.

Thanks

The library is the only department or service in the school that is expected to meet the needs of every learner as well as serving staff, usually with labor and expertise of one person. One reason why libraries aren't valued is because they are tremendously understaffed. How good would the services of the guidance and counseling services, the athletic department, food services, custodial services, or administration look if they had only one professional and maybe one paraprofessional doing the work?

My internet relationships have become more real than my real-life ones at this point. :/
I think you should've titled this post "When Keepin' It Real Goes Wrong."
