    Wow. I completely see my own situation in this post. The big dilemma I face is in making the case for innovation, risk-taking (however small or manageable the actual “risk” is, it’s still perceived as a risk) and change. Have you heard of any cases of schools that did it well, or materials that could potentially sway skeptical administrators? The challenge is in articulating the value of letting the web people lead the way, or even part of the way, in where the web goes next.

    I agree completely. Its interesting, at the institution where I work, we are very fortunate to be empowered to drive strategy. That being said there is collaboration that needs to be happen with Marketing, Recruitment, etc. The other challenge, even though we have been empowered, we need to change the culture. What I mean is educate that a website is more than website. Its a business tool. But we are moving in the direction.

    Good post and one that many executives should read.
